Everything below is built and in testers' hands through TestFlight today. It reaches the App Store in the next release. Anyone can join the beta, and it is free.
Amber is still the default and one tap brings it back, but the whole app now follows whatever colour you choose: six one-tap presets, a full colour picker, and a hex field if you know exactly what you want.
The text and glyphs drawn on top of your colour switch between black and white on their own, so a pale yellow stays as readable as a deep purple, and the gradient follows your choice instead of staying orange.

Skip back and skip forward by 10, 15 or 30 seconds, either side of Play. Next and Previous stay exactly where they are.
They can be limited to one library, which is the point if you keep audiobooks and podcasts on the same server as your music: turn them on for that library and your music player is unchanged. Off until you ask for them.

Leave a song half finished on the Mac and NaviBeat on your phone offers to continue it, at the second you stopped, with the rest of the queue intact. Tap it and the Mac pauses itself, within a few seconds, so you are never chased through the house by your own music.
It works through your own server's play queue, so there is nothing extra to configure and nothing leaves your network.

Build a playlist out of rules rather than by hand: artist, genre, year, rating, play count, when you added it, whether it is in another playlist, and more. Results update as your library does, and you see them while you are still editing the rules.
Definitions sync across your devices, and a snapshot can be written back to your server as an ordinary playlist so every other client sees it too.

Downloaded music now lives inside the normal app. The same Home, the same artists, the same albums, with anything you do not have on the device shown greyed out instead of hidden, so you always know what is missing rather than wondering where it went.
When your server cannot be reached, NaviBeat switches to your downloads on its own and switches back when the server returns. Favourites, ratings and artwork keep working while you are cut off, and catch up afterwards.

Keep several servers side by side and switch between them without entering anything again. Each entry carries its own proxy headers and its own mTLS client certificate, so a server behind an identity-aware proxy is a saved entry like any other.

Albums are grouped by release type, so albums, EPs, singles, live records and compilations stop fighting for the same list. An All Songs view flattens an artist's whole catalogue into one sortable list, play counts show on the album page, and Top Songs are visible on the artist header rather than hidden in a menu.
Albums released in the same year are finally in the right order: if your files carry a release date, NaviBeat reads it down to the day, and an original release beats a later reissue so a box of remasters cannot jump to the front.

Time-synced lyrics scroll with the song and a tap on any line seeks to it. New in the beta: if your server and its own lyrics plugin both come up empty, NaviBeat can ask lrclib.net instead.
That lookup is off until you turn it on, and it sends the song title, artist, album and length. Nothing about you and nothing about your server.

Shortcuts actions for play, pause, next, previous and shuffle, plus Play Playlist by name, so NaviBeat can sit inside your own automations and Focus modes.
Copy Share Link asks your server for a proper share URL rather than pasting anything of yours into a message.

Every transport control announces what it does and, where it is a toggle, what state it is in, instead of reading out the name of an icon. Reduce Motion turns off the animation the rest of the app leans on.

A selectable high fidelity playback engine, a 10 band equalizer with presets, ReplayGain per track or per album or automatic, and gapless playback for the records that were written to be heard that way.

Ten tiers, from the original file down to a light Opus stream, chosen independently for Wi-Fi and for mobile data. Auto sends the original at home and something kind to your data plan on the road. Your server does the transcoding, so nothing is re-encoded on the phone.
A codec and bitrate badge tells you what you are actually hearing, and can be turned off.
Reorder, shuffle, repeat, play next, add to queue, and a sleep timer. AutoMix keeps going when the queue runs out, using similar tracks resolved from your server or from Last.fm and ListenBrainz if you connect them.
Internet radio stations too.
Time-synced LRC lyrics on every platform, scrolling with the song, with a tap on any line to seek there. Plain lyrics render properly when that is all a track has.

A download queue with live speed, a history, and one tap to retry whatever failed. Artwork and metadata are cached with the audio, so the library browses offline as well as plays, which is the part most clients skip.
An LRU cache with a size limit you set.
Play the local file even when the server is reachable, so a good connection never costs you data you already spent. Keep Streamed Songs quietly saves what you play, so the music you return to ends up on the device without you managing anything.
Downloads you asked for are never deleted automatically.

The part that does not change
There is no NaviBeat backend. The app talks to your server and to nothing else, unless you connect Last.fm or ListenBrainz yourself. No telemetry, no crash pings, no accounts. Privacy policy.
Import a client certificate and reach a server that refuses anyone without one. No other Apple client here supports them at all. Custom proxy headers ride alongside, for setups behind an identity-aware proxy.
